Good to know
Vehicle details are checked against the government vehicle database before activation. NHAI announced that a separate post-activation vehicle check (KYV) is no longer required for new car, jeep and van tags from 1 February 2026. It can still be asked for in specific cases, such as a loose tag or a complaint. Rules change, so we confirm the current process when you apply.
Fixing the tag
Fix the tag on the inside of the windscreen, in the place shown in the issuer's guide. A tag kept loose or fixed wrongly can fail to read, and may cause a complaint.

Can I move the tag to another car?
No. A tag is linked to one registration number. Do not remove it from the windscreen.
